No, you must fill out a service request form and provide a copy of a legal document (ex. marriage license, final divorce papers, etc.) and provide it to a utility billing clerk.

3. My bill seems high, how do I get my meter checked?

Either call in to 352-429-2141 ext. 601 or email a utility billing clerk to set up a reread/leak check service order. The utility billing clerk can also set up an appointment time for you to meet with the utility technician.

4. What are some possible causes for my usage to be high this month?

Did you have company during this usage period?
Did you install new sod or landscape during this usage period? Have you been watering more due to new sod or landscape?
Did you fill your pool during this usage period?
Have you pressure wash your house or driveway during this usage period?
Did you have a problem with your toilet running or being stuck in the flush position during this usage period?

5. Why must I pay a monthly bill even when I'm not using water?

City rates are structured so that each customer pays a fair share of the fixed and non-variable costs incurred to provide water and wastewater collection service. Many of those costs continue even when the water is not being used.

6. Why is my usage the same some months?

Your meter is read and billed in thousands of gallons. If the household activity does not vary much then it is not unusual for the usage to be the same some months. You are billed for the actual usage in thousands of gallons and not in hundreds.

7. How do I transfer residentail service from one address to another?

Fill out a service request form under the quick links, then email, fax or bring into city hall the following: the service request form along with your final HUD statement (if you purchased the new location) or your rental or lease agreement (if you are renting or leasing).

8. How do I close out my utility account when I am moving out of your utility area?

Fill out a service request form make sure you fill out the following:

*address you want disconnected
*account holder's name
* forwarding address
*telephone number you can be contacted at during regular business hours
* date you want service disconnected

Then fax, email, mail or bring the form into city hall.

9. I am renting a home and need water turned on. What do I do?

Check with your landlord and make sure they have registered the property with the building department as a rental property,the inspection has been done and passed. Once you have verified that has all been done you need to come into city hall with your lease or rental agreement, drivers license, social security card, $150 security deposit and $25 service fee.

10. I just purchased a property and need water turned on. What do I do?

Come into city hall with your final HUD statement and drivers license. Staff will then scan in your drivers license and do a quick utility credit check which will determine if a $75 or $150 security deposit will be required. you will also be required to pay a $25 service fee.

11. I am managing a property. How do I get water turned on?

You will need to provide service address, proof of who the owner of the property is, a management agreement, contact person, contact phone number, mailing address, $150 deposit and a $25 service fee.

12. How long do you hold on to the security deposit?

Property owners may request their security deposit after 12 months as long as they have not incurred and penalties or disconnections.

Renters deposits are held until their utility account is closed with the City of Groveland utility department.
