What's Happening in Parks & Rec?
Enhancements to parks are underway at John Wesley Griffin Memorial Park and Lake David Park.
John Wesley Griffin Memorial Park
We are adding a shade structure to the existing playground at Griffin Park. The shade is scheduled to be installed in Mid-April, and will keep you and your family out of the sun during your outings!
We are also adding a playground for the 2-5 age group! The installation date is not set, but look for updates in the coming weeks.
Lake David Park
The rumors are true! We are getting a splash pad, new playground equipment, and a new bathroom! Look for specific details in the coming months, as we are getting close to finishing the design phase of the project.
The CRA has also set aside funding to update the North Side of Lake David Park. The area where the gazebo is currently located will be transformed into a Great Lawn with a stage for performances, festival streets, and a boardwalk.
After years of hard work and many recommendations by the Recreation Advisory Committee, the City Council has approved a new park which will be located on 40 acres on Wilson Lake Parkway. Phase I of the project is underway and construction is tentatively slated to begin in April of 2019. Check back for updates.
Phase I options are indicated by the dark outline.
