Groveland’s new Public Safety Annex, located off Wilson Lake Parkway and Cherry Lake Road, held a joint Grand Opening and Dedication Ceremony on Saturday, November 3rd.
Chief Willie Morgan
The annex houses both Fire / Rescue and Police Department personnel in the northeastern section of the city. The annex was dedicated to our Fire Chief Willie Morgan. Willie grew up in Groveland and starting serving as a volunteer fire fighter in 1974. While being a general contractor he sat on the City Council for 10 years.
In 1999, Willie became the Fire Chief and has been working diligently to build and improve our fire department and the emergency services it offers. He has brought us from 1 small fire truck to 2 full-size fire trucks, a small fire truck, a rescue vehicle, a brush truck, and a rescue boat.
He has ensured that his staff is fully trained and up-to-date on all rescue techniques including diver certifications. Chief Morgan has built more than a beautifully functional building at the annex. He has built a Fire Department that the citizens of Groveland can be proud of. So if you see Chief Morgan, quietly going about his day, be sure to stop and congratulate him. Because of him and his staff you can rest easy knowing that if you are ever in need of their assistance they will be there for you.
